The PlayStation 5 has been out for some time now, and its reception has been mostly positive. It includes lots of quality-of-life improvements over its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, such as faster load times, a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a regular hard disk drive (HDD), and an improved controller in the form of the new DualSense. However, a console is only as good as the games available on it, and thankfully, the PS5 has you covered on that front as well.
While the machine already has a worthy library of great PS5 games, there are even more to look forward to, with some releasing as soon as this month, while others are still years away. In the video game world, it’s not uncommon to be aware of games that are still several years out from release. It’s also normal for a new game to be revealed and launched within just a couple of months. In this comprehensive list, we’ll go through the major PS5 releases scheduled for 2023 and speculate on future games.
These are the best upcoming PS5 games to look forward to.

Final Fantasy XVI is finally on its way in 2023 and it looks to be more fantasy-driven than its predecessor. On top of that, it will be a PS5 console exclusive, meaning you’ll have to get a PS5 if you plan on playing it outside of the PC ecosystem. Final Fantasy XVI certainly looks jaw-dropping in the visual department.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was one of the first games confirmed for a PS5 release. In development at German studio Daedalic Entertainment, the game occurs before the events of the titular books and will focus on Gollum and the ongoing conflict in his head. It will be an action-adventure game with stealth elements, and Gollum won’t look like he does in the Peter Jackson movies. It also won’t be going for a hyper-realistic art style, unlike the recent Mordor games from Warner Bros. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed multiple times to ensure it meets expectations. It’s now set to launch sometime in 2023
Skull and Bones has been delayed for a sixth (and hopefully final) time — it has now been given the vague release date of “early 2023 to 2024.” The final version of Skull and Bones is a mix of Ubisoft’s open-world titles, survival games, and a more detailed version of the Assassin’s Creed series’ naval combat. Are players still interested after the title has seen so many delays? And will it stack up against the success of Sea of Thieves? Only time will tell.

Kicking off the 2021 PlayStation Showcase was the announcement of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake. It’s still very early in development and will likely be a while before it’s ready to launch. The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic launched for Xbox in 2003 and was developed by BioWare, the team behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The remake is being handled by Aspyr, the studio that developed remasters of Star Wars: Episode I — Racer, Star Wars: Jedi Knight — Jedi Academy, and Star Wars: Republic Commando. Interestingly, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will be a PS5 timed console exclusive, though it’s unclear for how long. In 2022, it was reportedly delayed indefinitely, so we likely won’t get to play this game any time soon.
