If you’ve been waiting for Poker Face to wrap up its first season before bingeing it, then now is the perfect time to catch Rian Johnson’s new series. Poker Face is a refreshing throwback to the TV shows of yesteryear thanks to its mystery-of-the-week format.
Natasha Lyonne stars as Charlie Cale, a woman who is both blessed and cursed with the ability to tell when someone is lying. As she attempts to rebuild her life, Charlie finds herself on the road solving new mysteries each week opposite a star-studded guest cast.
Netflix
You don’t need to know anything about Formula 1 racing to be drawn into this documentary series that explores the drivers, teams, and season-to-season drama of the world’s most popular racing sport. Each season of the series takes a deep dive into the prior year’s Formula 1 World Championship competition, profiling the colorful drivers, team principals (basically, the coach of the team), team dynamics, and racing drama that makes Formula One so exciting.
The first season of Drive to Survive covered the 2018 racing season, and subsequent seasons explored the rise — and fall — of various racers, how the league was affected by a global pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the delicate balance between camaraderie and competition that fuels the sport. The recently released fifth season brings fans up to speed with the events from the 2022 season.
Disney+
After an absence of more than two years, the first live-action Star Wars series is back on Disney+. If you decided not to watch The Book of Boba Fett, then you may be mystified when you discover that the emotional farewell between Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu was resolved between seasons.
When The Mandalorian season 3 picks up, the duo are happily reunited and on a new adventure that will take them all the way to Mandalore in a bid to restore Din’s status in the eyes of his clan. Along the way, they may even reclaim the Mandalorian home world. As they say, “this is the way.”
This animated Star Wars spinoff series set after the events of The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith follows a group of renegade clone troopers who find themselves on the run from the Galactic Empire in the aftermath of Order 66 and the elimination of the Jedi Order.
The first season of the series left the uniquely gifted clones in deep water (literally) as they rescued one of their own from the facility where they were created, still uncertain of their place in this new galaxy. Season 2 is currently streaming weekly.
Amazon Prime Video
It’s no secret that Riley Keough is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, or that she recently lost her mother, Lisa Marie Presley. But Keough has her own career in Hollywood, and she’s attempting to build her own legacy. That legacy starts here with Daisy Jones & the Six, a new miniseries on Prime Video.
Keough and Sam Claflin co-headline the series as Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, respectively. In the ’70s, their band ruled the rock world before it suddenly fell apart. Daisy Jones & the Six utilizes a faux-documentary style to explore the band’s rise and fall, as viewers are left to wonder if Daisy and Billy can come back together again.
HBO Max
Many of us are probably not old enough to remember the 1957-1966 Perry Mason series starring Raymond Burr, or the pulp novels that Erle Stanley Gardner wrote 90 years ago. And you don’t have to be familiar with them to enjoy HBO’s reinvention of the series.
Perry Mason keeps the Great Depression time period from Gardner’s original novels, and acts as an origin story for Perry (Matthew Rhys), as he finds himself forced to transition from private investigator to lawyer in order to solve a nearly impossible case. Season 2 begins this Sunday, March 5, with new cast members including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actress Katherine Waterston and Sean Astin.
The hit video game franchise heads to the screen in this adaptation that casts Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel, a weathered survivor tasked with smuggling a teenage girl across a dangerous landscape filled with threats both human and otherwise.
Game of Thrones actress Bella Ramsey portrays Ellie, the teenage girl who holds an important secret. One of the greatest game franchises of all time sets a high bar for the TV series, but almost universal critical acclaim and an ever-growing audience indicate The Last of Us will match and even exceed the sterling reputation of its video game source material.
